SPIDERS
Spiders choose quiet areas to hide like basements, closets, attics, under sinks, and furniture. Outside, spiders choose dark, quiet places to build their webs or burrows. They are reclusive by nature and want to stay out of sight as much as possible.
MOSQUITOS
In our area, mosquito season typically falls between April and October when the hot, humid weather favors breeding. Properties with or near areas of standing water are the most attractive to mosquitoes. These insects live and breed outside. During the heat of the day, mosquitoes rest in tall grass, dense vegetation, under trees, and along fencelines. Mosquitoes don’t live indoors, but they find their way inside while foraging for food, usually through open windows and doors.
TERMITES
Termites often live outside near homes and other structures. The workers leave their underground nests each day to forage for food, traveling through the soil or mud tubes they create. As they are searching for food, they sometimes find their way indoors through cracks in the foundation or pieces of wood that are making direct contact with the soil. Inside buildings, termites gravitate to water-damaged structural wood or wood located around pipes.
ANTS
Ants create their central satellite nest outside, usually in damp soil under fallen trees, mulch, along fence lines, under woodpiles, and next to foundations and sidewalks. During the day, ants often wander around driveways, gardens, yards, and sidewalks foraging for food.
Since ants often create their outdoor nests in locations close to homes and other structures, they find their way indoors while searching for food or while trying to escape harsh weather.
RODENTS
These opportunistic pests will take advantage of any food and water provided to them. Rodents live in urban, rural, and suburban areas, and almost any property can become a home to rodents. The biggest attractant for rodents is food; bird feeders, pet food, gardens, trash cans, and compost are all places where rodents forage for food.
